Are there any competitions or other challenges available for those interested in testing their knowledge of and proficiency with various aspects of the field of construction trade skills?

Competitors are evaluated for their accuracy, competence with industry software, and ability to meet a deadline. By interacting and collaborating with your colleagues, the organization or company will grow and succeed. Everyone has a different set of skills that they bring. By interacting with your co-workers, you can come to a better conclusion or idea than you would have on your own.

When you arrive at your new career with quality teamwork skills already in your pocket, you'll be one step ahead of the competition. While critical thinking skills were something that many employers thought graduates could improve, teamwork and collaboration were skills that greatly impressed most employers. While critical thinking skills are what employers want and consider most essential, the average employer thinks that recent graduates only “master critical thinking skills to some extent.” Competitors demonstrate skills in hydraulic systems, vehicle inspections, fundamental fault analysis, braking systems, air conditioning systems and general workshop skills. An individual event: recognizes participants who apply the fashion construction skills learned in Family and Consumer Sciences courses to create an exhibition with samples of their skills.

During the construction project, the team demonstrates their ability to work together by using their carpentry, roofing, electrical, plumbing and masonry skills.
